Orrick Library Seminar: Recent Expansion of U.S. Trade Controls Regarding Iran and Russia

Orrick’s Global Japan Practice is hosting a series of “Orrick Library” seminars to explore legal issues in various fields in Japan as well as the United States, Asia and Europe. The next seminar will be held on Wednesday, September 26 from 9:00 am to 10:30 am.

The program will describe the Trump Administration’s broadening of economic sanctions and export controls with respect to investment in and supply of goods and services to Iran and Russia.  The focus will be on extraterritorial application of those restrictions to U.S.-related transactions involving Japan. The seminar will be presented by Harry Clark, partner in Washington D.C. office and Chair of the International Trade & Compliance Group.

• U.S. withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action with Iran (JCPOA) and re-imposition of sanctions measures terminated or suspended when the JCPOA was established.
• Broad April 2018 expansion of U.S. sanctions regarding Russia.
• August 2017 U.S. “CAATSA” legislation, which established many new “secondary sanctions” measures relating to Iran and Russia.

There will be time set asides for questions and answers.
