Orrick’s innovation time program, first introduced in 2019, is inspiring associates to explore GenAI use cases and enhance their digital literacy, Orrick’s Vedika Mehera told Law.com.

  • About 120 lawyers focused on GenAI last year under the policy, which now offers up to 100 hours of creditable time for innovation.
  • Lawyers also tested AI tools and met with clients about AI, Mehera said. She directs Orrick Labs, an internal skunkworks that develops legal technologies.
  • On average, around 200 Orrick lawyers spend about 6,000 hours a year on innovation, she told Dan Packel for his “Law Firm Disrupted” column.
