Law360 today profiled our Employment Practice as one of the publication’s 2019 Employment Practice Groups of the Year, coming on the heels of major wins this past year on behalf of Microsoft, Twitter, Citigroup and SpaceX. This is the fourth time Orrick has been recognized as a Law360 Employment Practice Group of the Year.
Orrick, Law360 observed, “continued to establish itself as a leader in the employment field.”
The feature highlighted several wins by our employment teams, including securing a precedent-setting Second Circuit ruling for Citigroup that dismissed much of a whistleblower claim and sending the rest of the suit to arbitration. “Arbitration is an important issue for many of our clients and the Second Circuit’s reaffirmance of longstanding case law on arbitrability was an important decision,” partner Lisa Lupion told Law360.
Julie Totten, head of our global employment practice, discussed the growth of the group, its worldwide reach, including employment lawyers across Europe and Asia, and the fact major companies turn to Orrick for their toughest workplace challenges. “We have always been a destination for employment, meaning a lot of our clients come to Orrick purposely to hire the employment group to handle these challenging matters,” Julie said.
Partner Erin Connell also outlined how the firm has responded to increased attention on pay equity issues, including the formation of our pay equity task force, which she co-chairs. The firm advises on employment issues in the Tech, Finance and Energy & Infrastructure sectors. “There’s really been a spotlight on those sectors from the perspective of pay equity and diversity,” Erin told Law360. “In society generally, it is a topic that our clients are hearing from their customers and their clients and their employees.”
In addition to our employment practice, Law360 has recognized Orrick for Project Finance and Sports & Betting Practice Groups of the Year.
