Congratulations to Tiffany Wright, an Orrick associate now serving as head of Howard School of Law’s Human and Civil Rights Clinic, for being recognized as the National Bar Association’s Best Advocate of the Year for her leadership and appellate work advancing social justice.
Earlier this month, the NBA recognized Tiffany on its list of “Top 40 Under 40 – Nation’s Best Advocates.” The organization honors top rising stars “who exemplify a broad range of high achievement, including in innovation, vision, leadership and legal and community involvement.”
Tiffany, a member of our Supreme Court and Appellate practice, joined Howard last year to lead the clinic, the first initiative launched by The Appellate Project to improve diversity in the appellate bar. The clinic has already generated eight briefs in the U.S. Supreme Court, federal courts of appeal and state Supreme Courts.
In addition, Tiffany over the past year has been instrumental in a number of high-profile pro bono cases advancing racial and social justice arguments, including authoring an amicus brief in a California case raising a novel challenge to barring jurors based on their support for the Black Lives Matter movement. She also was one of the architects of briefing in a U.S. Supreme win that enabled a Texas prison inmate to sue over “deplorably unsanitary” conditions.
Tiffany was previously recognized by the National Black Lawyers Top 40 in 2019.
