Prior to joining Orrick, he was a Director and senior litigation counsel at Credit Suisse Securities (USA) LLC, where he chaired the firm's Mortgage Securities Litigation Task Force and helped direct the bank's litigation response to the mortgage crisis. He previously practiced law in the New York offices of King & Spalding and Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft.

Alessandro Amato Associate

Rome

Alessandro's activity focuses on European and competition law, European and Italian, with a particular focus with respect to FDI screening procedures and in State aid matters. He also focus on administrative law related matters, assisting Italian and foreign clients in the areas of public procurement, energy and environment, urban planning and construction and infrastructure, both in and out of court.

Prior to joining Orrick, he worked for an important Italian firm. He also worked as a Blue Book Trainee at the European Commission, DG Competition.

Alessandro graduated with a master’s degree in law at "Roma Tre" University in Rome. He has also earned an LL.M. in Competition and Innovation Law from LUISS School of Law in 2021.

He is qualified as a lawyer in 2020 and has been a member of the Rome Bar Association since 2021.

Shane D. Anderson Senior Associate

Shane has experience working on patent disputes in Federal Court and before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board for globally-recognized companies in the domains of software, communications, consumer electronics, and other high-tech fields.  He understands what it takes to be successful in complex patent litigation and wields his unique experience and education to gain the best result possible for his clients.  Prior to joining Orrick's Intellectual Property Group Shane practiced in Silicon Valley as an associate at a global law firm and focused on patent litigation.

Prior to law school, Shane was an electrical engineer and worked both in Japan and Canada, developing test systems, embedded hardware, and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) software.  Shane also worked as an educator in rural Japan, an experience that informs his ability to explain complex topics both clearly and persuasively.

Shane also has a passion for community service and pro bono representation.  Among his efforts, he assisted with the representation of plaintiffs in a Voting Rights Act, Section 2, litigation, and advised a small business owner and drafted agreements and contracts.

Daniela practice covers cross-border corporate transactions and the so called “special situations”, which include investments in distressed assets (non-performing loans, debt and/or equity in listed/unlisted distressed companies), buy-outs from insolvency proceedings and bankruptcy-related litigation. In recent years, she has assisted banks, Italian and foreign investors and debtors in complex deals of corporate restructurings relating to the financial indebtedness and concordato proceedings.

Patricia E. Anglin Of Counsel

Patricia is a trusted resource for her clients and leads complex negotiations to provide innovative solutions with regard to benefits design, administration and compliance. Patricia provides substantive knowledge in the defense of benefits litigation matters, has substantial experience with the employee benefit aspects of sales and acquisitions of businesses and is well-versed in the Affordable Care Act and HIPAA.

Patricia regularly advises general counsel, executive management, CEOs, boards of directors, retirement and health plan committees and key leadership of Fortune 500 companies on complex questions and issues regarding the operation of their domestic and international employee benefit plans and compliance with federal and state law.

Before joining the firm, Patricia acted as Senior Manager of National Employee Benefits at Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc. and formerly served as Senior Counsel-Benefits and Executive Compensation at AirTouch Communications, Inc. (now Vodafone).

Patricia also acted as Legislation Counsel on the Joint Committee on Taxation within the United States Congress working extensively on the Clinton health care proposal and other benefits legislation. John Ansbro Partner

John litigates a wide range of commercial disputes, including financial services litigations involving RMBS, disputes in the wind and solar power industries across a host of contractual issues, construction disputes, long-term take-or-pay and liquidated damages disputes, force majeure, bankruptcy litigation, insurance recovery, and commercial real estate foreclosure. He was also an arbitrator on an ICC International Court of Arbitration panel in a cross-border industrial contract dispute.

COVID-19’s unprecedented global market impact has clients across an array of industries seeking John’s counsel on force majeure and related breach of contract disputes. These include force majeure matters across jurisdictions and industries, including Energy & Infrastructure, Pharmaceuticals, Financial Services, Real Estate, Hospitality, and Retail.

John litigates significant, high stakes matters. For example, in 2017 on behalf of his client Hemlock Semiconductor Corp., in a case of first impression in Michigan, on appeal John won the dismissal of an attempt by a Japanese conglomerate to avoid $1.4 billion in purchase obligations on the theory that alleged acts by the Chinese Government constituted an “act of government” under the parties’ force majeure provision. The Michigan Bar Journal declared it one of the top 10 business cases of 2010-2019. In 2019, one of the very few RMBS actions to be tried, John was trial counsel for Credit Suisse Securities USA in a $700 million dispute in the Supreme Court of New York. At trial he handled the defense expert in the critical area of loan underwriting.

Prior to joining Orrick, John was a Litigation Associate at Donovan Leisure Newton & Irvine LLP.

Julia counsels on compliance issues in relation to European and French tech and data regulations, including the GDPR, the Digital Services Act, the regulation of AI, the Data Act and other new and emerging legislation impacting online platforms, technology developers, and eCommerce businesses. She advises companies of all sizes on a wide range of compliance matters, ranging the drafting of internal policies, to assisting with regulatory investigations, and product counseling.

In the context of strategic transactions covering significant and complex technological issues, she is involved in the drafting and negotiation of agreements relating to data transfer, IT, software, content and brand licensing.

Qualified to practice in the UK and France, Julia is deeply familiar with the commercial considerations’ clients face, having practiced in-house at Twitter, Financial Times and CBS for more than a decade prior to joining Orrick.
