Benjamin Howe is a partner with Orrick's global Technology Companies Group.

Ben is a former founder dedicated to adding value for his clients. He is passionate about helping entrepreneurs and investors steer clear of avoidable complications and solve problems quickly when they arise.

Ben's practice has focused on AI-driven technologies for over a decade and increasingly leans towards the generative AI space. He shares a conviction around the responsible development of emerging AI technologies. Ben works with companies across a wide range of industries, including fintech, deep tech, autonomous vehicles, digital health, big data, clean tech / decarbonization, agritech, legal tech, edtech, web3, and consumer products, among others.

Over the course of his career, Ben has advised entrepreneurs with respect to the formation of hundreds of startup companies and has closed an even larger number of domestic and international venture capital financings. These include early seed investments, initial and growth equity rounds, bridge financings, venture debt, large late-stage equity rounds, and complex strategic investments. Additionally, Ben has represented buyers and sellers in matters ranging from sales and acquisitions of early-stage emerging companies to multibillion-dollar cross-border deals.

Apart from his client work, Ben is deeply committed to community-building. He collaborates with various organizations within the Boston startup ecosystem to foster growth and engagement in our community.

Ben has held positions with a university venture fund, a venture-backed startup, and a national emerging company accelerator. He has also served as General Faculty at the University of Virginia. In addition to representing startup companies and investors, Ben is an adjunct professor at Boston University School of Law, where he has taught a spring semester seminar on startups for multiple years.
