American Lawyer Names Three Orrick Partners 'Litigators of the Week' in 2013

November.25.2013

Orrick commercial litigation partner Peter Bicks, and intellectual property partners Neel Chatterjee and Chris Ottenweller were all recognized by the American Lawyer’s Litigation Daily as ‘Litigators of the Week’ in 2013.

Mr. Ottenweller was selected in March for his jury trial victory in the Eastern District of Texas on behalf of client EMC Corp. against patent troll Oasis Research. By uncovering evidence from over 20 years ago that proved the named inventor intentionally left co-workers off the patents and wrongly claimed credit for ideas he never conceived, Mr. Ottenweller and his team were able to prove that the patents were invalid.

Mr. Bicks earned his Litigator of the Week recognition in October for “beating back claims that Dow’s Enlist E3 technology, which allows crops…to withstand a wide range of wide-killing herbicides, infringes on patents owned by rival Bayer CropScience and helping Dish remain undefeated in its copyright litigation over its commercial-zapping Hopper DVR.”

Earlier this month, Mr. Chatterjee earned this recognition for his bet-the-company patent victory on behalf of Ruckus Wireless. Retained only seven weeks before trial, Mr. Chatterjee and his team successfully convinced a jury that Ruckus' wireless Internet technology doesn't infringe on two patents owned by Netgear Inc.
