Jared Bobrow Joins Orrick to Co-Lead Global IP Practice

May.22.2018

Nationally recognized patent trial lawyer Jared Bobrow has joined Orrick as partner and co-leader of our global IP practice. Jared, formerly co-chair of Weil Gotshal & Manges’ patent litigation practice, is based in our Silicon Valley office. In addition, Jason Lang has joined our IP practice from Weil as a partner in our Silicon Valley office.

Jared has nearly 30 years of experience as a patent litigator in the federal courts and the Patent Trial and Appeals Board, as well as in trade secrets matters, with a focus on the semiconductor, communications, cloud computing and medical device industries.

Jared and Orrick partner Sten Jensen will co-lead an Orrick team that was named the IP Litigation Department of the Year by American Lawyer In 2016.

“Intellectual property litigation is a core strength of our firm and an essential part of our tech sector offering,” said Orrick Chairman Mitch Zuklie. “Jared has a stellar reputation for his courtroom skills and as a problem solver and team player to whom clients turn for their most complex cases. We are thrilled to add a leader of his caliber to our team, and to welcome a rising star in Jason.”

“Orrick has built a top IP litigation practice, and has a reputation more broadly as an elite trial and appellate team. The firm’s culture of collaboration, innovation, diversity and investing in the next generation of talent is exactly what today’s market demands,” said Jared.  I am deeply honored to join this team and excited to work with my new colleagues to take the practice to the next level.”

Chambers notes Jared’s “strong reputation for his courtroom presentation, with the quality of his oral arguments and his ability to ‘communicate well with the jury’ coming in for particular praise.”  Last month, the Daily Journal profiled him as a “Top IP Attorney in California,” citing his recent high-profile patent wins for a global semiconductor manufacturing company. Jared’s move marks a homecoming: he practiced with Orrick as an associate for six years after clerking for the Honorable Charles P. Sifton (E.D.N.Y.). He teaches patent litigation at U.C. Berkeley Law School.

Jason, formerly counsel with Weil, has litigated major IP matters involving a wide spectrum of technologies, including semiconductor devices, communication technologies, and software applications. He also has a strong pro bono practice through the San Jose Housing Clinic.

In March, Orrick announced the addition in New York of Paul Fakler, a nationally recognized adviser in complex copyright litigation and policy matters, including the unique area of royalty rate disputes before the Copyright Royalty Board and PRO Rate Courts.
