Law360 Recognizes Orrick’s Jonathan Ayre as an Energy Rising Star

Congratulations to Jonathan Ayre on his recognition as a Law360 Rising Star. He is one of only five attorneys selected in the energy category. The award recognizes Jonathan as a lawyer “under 40 whose accomplishments transcend” his age and describes how he helped build the firm's oil and gas practice into a go-to adviser for major energy players and shepherded billion-dollar deals in the process. His recent work includes advising Borealis and NOVA Chemicals in their joint venture with French oil and gas company Total, as well as developing an innovative way to securitize non-operating interests in oil and gas wells.

In an interview with Law360, Jonathan described the constantly evolving nature of the energy industry as what attracted him to this sector. “It's always changing and there's always a new structure or a new technology that could be disruptive. That will present opportunities for companies and the lawyers that serve them,” he noted.

When asked about the future of the energy industry, Jonathan explained that “the oil and gas space is currently experiencing volatility stemming from factors like the exponential growth in renewable energy, growing concern about climate change, and disruption in traditional financing sources.” He added that “the companies, and the attorneys who serve them, that are taking an innovative approach and looking for solutions to changing market dynamics are going to be the ones that are most successful."
