1 minute read | January.24.2024

Orrick has advised Kyuden International Corporation (‘KIC’), a member of Kyuden Group, and Development Bank of Japan Inc. (‘DBJ’) on the acquisition of minority interests in Viridor Energy, one of the largest waste treatment and power generation companies in the United Kingdom, with 11 plants in operation. The investment was conducted in collaboration with Equitix, which increased its existing interest in Viridor Energy.

The Energy-from-Waste facilities operated by Viridor Energy provide critical waste management infrastructure, addressing the increasing global waste problem. With this acquisition, KIC and DBJ aim to engage in overseas Energy-from-Waste businesses, reducing environmental impact and contributing to the realisation of a sustainable society.

The cross-border Orrick team was led by Minako Wakabayashi, Yuko Inui, Ravinder Sandhu, Evan Stergoulis and David O’Donovan, with support from James Connor and Elizabeth Monro-Davies (merger clearance and FDI), Jonathan Rosen and Nicholas Villalta (Tax), Adam Smith and Oliver Sikora (Finance) and Rebecca Grevitt (M&A).
