Orrick Adds Top New York Restructuring Advisor

• Emanuel “Manny” Grillo joins Orrick as a partner on its Chambers Band 1-ranked New York Restructuring team.
• Manny is a leading advisor to renewable energy and other investment funds focused on distressed energy investments (including upstream oil and gas, oilfield services and electric power) in in-court and out-of-court proceedings.
• Manny acts for troubled companies and their stakeholders up and down the capital structure in large and complex in-court and out-of-court restructurings. He also advises on insolvency aspects of complex financings, including liability management transactions, special situations lending and securitizations.
• In addition to his extensive work in the energy industry, Manny has deep experience in real estate, hospitality, telecom, media, tech, financial services and transportation. He also serves as outside general corporate counsel to a boutique investment banking firm and certain data center operators.
• He joins from A&O Shearman, where he served as chair of the U.S. Restructuring practice at Allen & Overy prior to the merger between A&O and Shearman & Sterling.

Manny’s recent experience includes representing a foreign state-owned defense contractor in the Paramount Group Ltd. bankruptcy cases, a private investment fund in the foreclosure upon a defaulted borrower’s solar energy investment and the equity holders of a portfolio of operating and developing solar projects.

Manny is the second lateral addition to Orrick’s New York team this year, following Eric Hochstadt, who joined the firm as head of its global Antitrust Litigation practice in late January. He is also the 11th partner Orrick has added to its Finance practice over the past two years, including Aurélien Loric as the head of the firm’s French Restructuring group in Paris. The firm also added a market-leading federal and state finance regulatory and enforcement team through its combination with Buckley in early 2023.
