  • Orrick has added a trio of partners to the firm’s Chambers Band 1 Energy platform: Matthew “Matt” Nesburn, Jeff Quinn-Cane and Charles “Chase” Armbrust.
  • Matt, who joins in Santa Monica, advises global energy companies, sponsors, independent power producers and funds on tax equity and other credit monetization transactions. He also brings deep experience in debt finance and energy M&A transactions.
  • Based in Seattle, Jeff advises clients primarily on tax-driven financings. Chase, who joins in Houston, brings expertise in debt and other structured financings in the energy sector.
  • Matt, Jeff and Chase join from A&O Shearman. With these additions, Orrick has added 26 partners in 14 markets to its global Energy & Infrastructure platform over the past three years. Last week, the firm announced the hire of Manny Grillo, a restructuring advisor to troubled companies and funds focused on the energy sector (including upstream oil and gas, oilfield services and electric power). Orrick is also growing in Los Angeles, with the addition last week of a 13-lawyer tech companies and venture capital team from Gunderson Dettmer.

“The push for energy dominance by the U.S. is going to keep power producers and their finance partners incredibly busy. Lenders, traditional tax equity investors and corporates continue to look for new opportunities to participate in the market,” noted Orrick partner and tax equity specialist John Eliason. “This team adds more top-quality capability, particularly on the debt financing side. Our group is coming off a record year and we look forward to continuing to build our team with talent like Matt, Jeff and Chase.”

“Orrick is one of the most respected platforms in the energy space and is a powerhouse in tax equity and tax credit transactions. The demand for power is only increasing and we are incredibly excited to work with this team to innovate and serve the market,” Matt said.

Since 2023, Orrick has helped clients close $14.5 billion in debt and tax equity financings globally and $4.3 billion of tax credit purchase transactions, representing buyers or sellers. The firm’s Energy & Infrastructure team acts for 60 of the top 100 E&I investors, half of the top 50 renewables sponsors worldwide and 4 of the top 10 oil & gas majors. In addition, Orrick ranks No. 2 globally in renewable energy (inspiratia).
