Connexin’s full fibre infrastructure has been acquired by CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent full fibre platform, expanding its footprint by up to 185,000 premises. The deal includes built network assets, work in progress, and a Project Gigabit contract.

Orrick advised Connexin.

THE COMPANIES

Connexin, known for its expertise in IoT and smart infrastructure, has built a network currently passing 80,000 premises, with an additional 20,000 under development. It will continue expanding its ISP and smart home services through a new nationwide wholesale agreement with CityFibre.

CityFibre, a leading wholesale full fibre network provider, has been rapidly growing its UK footprint, now passing over 4.4 million premises. The acquisition of Connexin’s infrastructure strengthens its presence in Hull and East Riding, supporting its goal of reaching more than 8 million premises nationwide.

THE IMPACT

This acquisition enhances CityFibre’s role in the UK’s digital infrastructure sector. The company will integrate Connexin’s XGS-PON network, bringing its wholesale products and services to Hull’s homes and businesses. The transaction also secures CityFibre’s tenth Project Gigabit contract, enabling high-speed broadband rollout to over 34,000 hard-to-reach premises in Nottinghamshire and West Lincolnshire, with the potential to expand to 50,000 additional non-subsidised premises.

By consolidating Connexin’s assets, CityFibre continues its strategy of market expansion through acquisition, following its successful integration of Lit Fibre in 2024. Meanwhile, Connexin will scale its IoT and smart technology solutions nationwide, building on its existing projects, including one of the UK’s largest LoRaWAN networks and smart water meter deployments.
