IJGlobal Recognizes Henry Ford Health as PPP Deal of the Year

The IJGlobal Awards 2024 in New York recognized the Henry Ford Health System Central Energy Hub Project as PPP Deal of the Year, North America, honoring top greenfield and refinancing deals in the energy and infrastructure industry.

Orrick advised the underwriters and served as special tax counsel in the design, construction, financing, operations and maintenance of the Central Energy Hub, which will provide electric heating and cooling to several new hospital buildings. The transaction utilized a novel application of not-for-profit tax-exempt financing through a project-developer-led approach, advancing the energy-as-a-service model.

Orrick’s Matthew Neuringer led the team as underwriters’ counsel, with Chas Cardall providing key leadership in tax structuring and valuable contributions from Robyn Helmlinger and Joshua Bonney of our public finance team. In Matthew's capacity as outside counsel to the Association for the Improvement of American Infrastructure (AIAI) Matthew has also provided input on various key pieces of federal, state and local governments on the sufficiency of their laws to produce P3 projects in their jurisdictions.
