Alexander Dartsch advises on cross-border M&A transactions and joint ventures in the energy and infrastructure sector. He also has extensive experience in the areas of energy regulation and renewable energies.

Alexander has many years of experience in advising national and international energy suppliers, global corporations and institutional investors across the entire value chain in the energy sector.

His work primarily involves advising on offshore wind, onshore wind, photovoltaic, and battery storage projects. He supports clients through all phases of a project, from establishing joint ventures for collaborative project development to acquiring project pipelines and investing in existing projects.

During a secondment, Alexander served a leading institutional investor specializing in infrastructure investments. He is recognized by Legal 500 Germany for his expertise in energy transactions (2023).

Alexander also advises on the drafting and negotiation of long-term power supply agreements (PPAs) for the procurement of electricity from renewable energy sources and on the associated regulatory and supervisory issues.

He has also advised on a large number of fundamental issues in the energy industry and represented clients in official and court proceedings. These include matters such as remuneration for power plant operators for redispatch measures, maintaining operational readiness of system-relevant coal-fired power plants, and the regulation of hydrogen networks.

    • RWE Offshore on the acquisition of the 49% share held by the Canadian company Northland Power in the jointly established 1.6 GW offshore cluster in the German North Sea
    • Norges Bank Investment Management (NBIM) on the acquisition of a 50% stake in the Borssele 1 & 2 offshore wind farm in the Netherlands worth EUR 1.4 billion*.
    • Shell on the acquisition of a PV pipeline with a total capacity of 500 MW*
    • Statkraft on the acquisition of the Breeze Three wind portfolio, which comprises 42 onshore wind farms in Germany and France with a total capacity of over 350 MW*
    • Gridspertise in the establishment of a joint venture with the German energy technology company Cuculus GmbH for the provision of turnkey Metering-as-a-Service solutions
    • Swiss Life Asset Management on the acquisition of a 49.99% stake in BCP Battery Holding to establish a joint venture with B Capital Partners for the financing, construction and operation of battery storage projects with a total capacity of 420 MWh, including the largest industrial battery storage project in Germany at the time*
    • Shell on the agreement to acquire the German provider of sustainable mobility solutions SBRS GmbH from Schaltbau Holding AG*
    • Gas pipeline operator on the intended acquisition of a stake in the EUGAL pipeline project from GASCADE*
