Gerald "Jerry" Porter is a Senior Associate in Orrick's Intellectual Property group, focusing on complex patent litigation, patent counseling, and matters related to copyright, trademark, and trade secrets. A registered patent attorney, Jerry combines technical expertise and litigation experience to deliver practical, impactful advice that resonates with clients, judges, and juries.

Jerry specializes in high-stakes patent disputes, excelling at distilling complex technical issues into clear, persuasive arguments. He is experienced across all stages of litigation, including pre-suit investigations, motion practice, fact and expert discovery, taking and defending depositions, arguing in federal court, pre-trial filings, trial, post-trial briefing, and appeals. He also has significant experience in patent prosecution before the Patent Office and in inter partes review proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

Using his engineering background, Jerry engages effectively with technical professionals and swiftly grasps new technologies. He provides tailored solutions for clients in diverse industries, including semiconductors, medical devices, biotechnology, cryptocurrency, cybersecurity, and audio and telecommunications.

    • Multifold Int'l Incorp. Pte. Ltd. v. Motorola Mobility LLC (D. Del / PTAB) Jerry is the lead associate representing Motorola against patent infringement claims brought in the District of Delaware and related inter partes review proceedings.
    • Parking World Wide, LLC v. Oracle Corp. et al. (E.D. Mo. / PTAB) Jerry was the lead associate for Oracle in the inter partes review proceedings and related district court litigation. The Orrick team obtained a final decision ruling all asserted claim unpatentable in the IPR.
    • In re: Taasera Licensing LLC, Patent Litigation (MDL) and Taasera Licensing LLC v. Check Point Software Technologies, Ltd. (E.D. Tex.) Jerry was the lead associate for Check Point in the two district court proceedings that resulted in a highly favorable outcome for Check Point.

    • WSOU Investments, LLC v. Canon Inc. et al. (W.D. Tex.) Jerry was a member of the team that successfully defended Canon in several patent cases asserting infringement of patents previously owned by Nokia.
    • Bardy Diagnostics, Inc. v. Vital Connect, Inc. (D. Del.) Jerry was the lead associate of the team that reached a favorable outcome for Vital Connect.
