David advises on venture capital transactions as well as young technology companies and their founders at all stages of development.

He advises technology companies from their incorporation through their first financing rounds into the growth phase, as well as on internationalization projects. David also has special experience in university spin-offs, restructurings, and employee ownership programs (ESOPs, VSOPs, hurdle shares and profit participation right programs).

In addition, he advises companies on venture capital transactions and international (corporate) venture capital investors on their investments in German start-ups and scale-ups.

Prior to joining Orrick, David worked as a trainee lawyer in the Cologne and Berlin offices of a law firm that is one of the leading firms for venture capital in Germany and as a research assistant in the Düsseldorf office of a Magic Circle law firm.

    • UK investor Blossom Capital on various investments in German start-ups in the software and FinTech sector, including the EUR 15.6m Series A financing round of finmid;
    • Energy Impact Partners on several early-stage and growth investments in German start-ups in the energy and sustainability sector, including on leading the USD 330m Series C of Berlin-based Grover and (together with GIC) on leading the EUR 100m Series C of German cleantech Zolar;
    • Start-ups Floy, Vivalyx, suena and BioThrust on their early-stage financing rounds;
    • Berlin-based healthcare start-up Kenbi on various financing rounds including its EUR 23.5m Series A led by Endeavor;
    • Headline on their investment in the EUR 45m financing round of the hospitality start-up numa;
    • Baden-Württemberg based medtech Aesculap on its venture investment in neuroloop, one of the largest university spin-outs in the medtech sector in Germany ever and neuroloop on various financing rounds as well as on its major partnership with Merck KGaA;
    • Family office Haniel on its investments in numerous German start-ups, including the EUR 215m financing round of 1Komma5° that turned the startup into a unicorn;
    • HCVC on its investment in the EUR 5.1m Series Seed of Hamburg-based start-up atmio;
    • TDK Ventures on its participation in the Series B funding round that raised more than USD 129m for INERATEC, a pioneering e-fuel start-up based in Karlsruhe.
