Orrick Further Expands IP Platform With Patent Trial Lawyer Clem Roberts

June.04.2018

Orrick announced today that Clement Roberts, a nationally recognized first-chair patent trial lawyer, has joined as a partner in San Francisco. Clem was a founding partner of IP boutique firm Durie Tangri and was previously a partner at Keker & Van Nest.

Clem RobertsClem focuses on patent litigation and complex commercial cases about technology. He has successfully tried numerous civil and criminal cases to verdict in state and federal courts and in arbitration. His clients include Fitbit, Ring, Ring Central, Check Point, Quantum, Collateral Analytics, H2O.ai and many other leading tech companies.

Clem’s arrival follows Orrick’s announcement last week of the hire of nationally recognized patent litigator Jared Bobrow and rising star Jason Lang, who joined in Silicon Valley from Weil Gotshal & Manges. Jared will Co-Chair Orrick’s global IP practice.

“It has been a top strategic priority to add to our roster of first chair patent litigators, and we’re absolutely thrilled to do so with the one-two punch of Jared and Clem,” said Annette Hurst, acting co-chair with Sten Jensen of Orrick’s IP practice and a member of the firm’s Board. “Bolstering our patent capability alongside our nationally leading copyright, trade secrets and other IP teams confirms our continuing status as an IP powerhouse – and is an essential combination for a tech-focused firm like Orrick.”

“I’m thrilled to be here working with the Orrick team and to be welcoming so quickly a world-class talent like Clem to our roster,” said Jared.

“Durie Tangri has been an incredible experience and I am proud of what we built,” said Clem.  “But my practice has grown to the point where my clients will benefit from the additional depth that Orrick can provide, as well as its recognized excellence in complementary areas” said Clem. “When you add that to Orrick’s commitment to innovation and its strong culture, it is a perfect fit.”

“Clem is a good friend and a brilliant lawyer who has made great contributions to Durie Tangri.  We wish him all the best at Orrick, an outstanding firm where we have many friends,” said Daralyn Durie.

The American Lawyer named Orrick Intellectual Property Litigation Department of the Year in 2016. The firm was on National Law Journal’s 2016 IP Hot List and has been named a Law360 IP Group of the Year four times.

In March, Orrick announced the hire of copyright litigation and policy authority Paul Fakler, who joined from Arent Fox.
