Yokogawa Electric Corporation has acquired BaxEnergy, a leading provider of renewable energy management solutions.

A cross-border Orrick team represented Yokogawa from offices in Japan, Germany and Italy.

THE COMPANIES

Yokogawa provides advanced solutions in measurement, control and information to customers across industries that include energy, chemicals, materials, pharmaceuticals and food. The company addresses customer issues regarding optimizing production, assets and the supply chain with the effective application of digital technologies, enabling the transition to autonomous operations.

Founded in Tokyo in 1915, Yokogawa has more than 17,000 employees in a network of 127 companies in 59 countries.

BaxEnergy provides flexible and scalable renewable energy management solutions that can be implemented without modifying core IT and business systems. The solutions have the unique ability to integrate the management of a variety of renewable power generation facilities, and can analyze data from turbines, inverters and other types of power generation equipment from many different manufacturers to improve power generation efficiency.

BaxEnergy is headquartered in Hannover, Germany, and has locations in Italy. The company has about 90 employees.

THE IMPACT

Yokogawa stated the acquisition will enable it to offer a range of solutions for renewable energy management.

“This acquisition will provide Yokogawa with a proven range of solutions that have already been adopted by major power companies throughout Europe,” the company said. It will make these available to global energy asset owners, supported by consultation on implementation and after-sales services through its global network.

The Orrick team advising Yokogawa Electric Corporation was led by partners Hiroki Sugita and Minako Wakabayashi. The team also included Christopher Sprado, Pietro Fazzini, Kane Huang, Martina Pullano, Claudia Francesca Micol Cirina, Francesco Brandi, Benedikt Kamann, Lars Mesenbrink, David Hamala, Camilla Larcher, and Mariangela Di Giandomenico.
