The Orrick Racial, Social and Economic Justice Fellowship Program

The Orrick Racial, Social and Economic Justice Fellowship Program was a four-year initiative (2021-2024) in response to a call for a new kind of corporate citizenship. Building on our strong pro bono commitment, the program responded to a call from the bar and our communities to devote greater attention to pro bono civil rights and social justice matters. We are proud of what we accomplished together.

Over the course of this program, we embedded 17 experienced lawyers full time for a year at innovative public service organizations working to address community needs and national policy. Our fellows helped these organizations enhance their impact, while also accelerating the development of their leadership and substantive legal skills.

Our community partners included Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, The Law Foundation of Silicon Valley, The MacArthur Justice Center, Acumen Fund, A New Way of Life, Planned Parenthood, Common Future and the Policing Project at NYU’s School of Law.

Some of the issues we worked on include:

  • Family reunification post-incarceration
  • Impact investment in the United States, Africa and Latin America
  • Affordable housing and child welfare policy at the state and federal level
  • Access to capital for community entrepreneurs
  • Privacy issues
