Alice Hoesterey Senior Associate

Alice has experience representing public and private companies in litigation across multiple industries including entertainment, technology, automotive, and retail. Alice regularly counsels clients on complex litigation strategy in multiple venues, including federal and state court, arbitration, and before government tribunals. She has successfully drafted numerous dispositive motions, managed all aspects of fact and expert discovery, and has substantial experience taking and defending depositions and arguing critical motions. Alice has litigated all types of disputes, including complicated trade secret actions,  whistleblower and discrimination claims, enforcement of non-compete agreements, and class actions, reaching favorable resolutions for her clients. 

Alice maintains an active pro bono practice, focusing primarily on issues relating to criminal justice reform.  

Prior to joining Orrick, Alice worked as an associate in Latham & Watkins’ Century City office. She earned her Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School where she graduated cum laude.

Bill Hughes Partner

Bill counsels public and late-stage private companies on general corporate and transactional matters, including advising on initial public offerings, follow-on equity offerings, direct listings, investment grade debt offerings and convertible debt offerings. He also regularly advises companies on disclosure and reporting obligations under U.S. federal securities laws, corporate governance issues and stock exchange listing obligations.

Additionally, Bill advises founders and companies in connection with public listings through SPAC merger. Among other engagements, Bill represented Getaround, Inc., a connected carsharing marketplace, Clover Health Investments, Corp., a next-generation Medicare Advantage insurer, and the founders of DraftKings Inc., a digital sports entertainment and gaming company, in the respective de-SPAC transactions of those entities.

Travis Jensen Partner

Able to quickly understand complex technology in the litigation context, Travis is particularly well-suited to resolve patent disputes involving semiconductor processes and circuits such as NAND flash memory, microcontrollers, wireless payment technologies, and related areas. After earning advanced degrees in electrical engineering, and before embarking on his legal career, Travis worked at Intel Corp. and co-founded a fabless semiconductor design company.

Travis has used his distinctive skillset to litigate technically complex patent cases to verdict, and obtain favorable settlements for several of the world’s leading technology companies such as Microchip, Synopsys, AT&T, and SanDisk. Travis has successfully first chaired patent and non-patent jury cases to verdict in federal and state court, including while on secondment to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office.  Travis has handled numerous appeals before the Federal Circuit, and, as a registered patent attorney, served as lead and back-up counsel in post-grant proceedings (inter partes review and ex parte reexamination) at the PTO.

Jillian Victoria Kaltner Senior Associate

Before joining Orrick, Jillian clerked at the San Francisco Superior Court, where she honed her skills and passion for civil litigation. 

Jillian graduated Magna Cum Laude and Order of the Coif from UC Hastings College of the Law.  During law school, Jillian won multiple awards for both brief writing and oral advocacy with the school's nationally-ranked Moot Court program.  Jillian also served as the Executive Editor of the Hastings Women's Law Journal.

Elaine joined Orrick with previous experience as a paralegal supporting the prosecution of foreign portfolios and U.S. portfolios of patents, trademarks, and design patents.

Now, Elaine works with Orrick's patent litigation teams to support investigations before the ITC, and cases before the PTAB and district courts. Her practice encompasses all phases of a matter, including expert and fact discovery strategy and management, motion drafting, written discovery, deposition preparation, and witness preparation. She holds a B.S. from the Johns Hopkins University in Biomedical Engineering and graduated cum laude from the Santa Clara University School of Law with a Tech Edge J.D. She is admitted to the State Bar of California.

Don Keller Head of Corporate Development

In 2020 and 2021, Don founded and served as CEO of Joinder, a SaaS engagement platform that provides a system of record for legal projects and files/documents, which was acquired by Brightflag.

Prior to founding Joinder, Don spent his legal career as a corporate partner at Orrick and Venture law Group advising high growth technology companies, public companies, venture capital firms and investment banks. He advised clients on more than 60 public offerings, 75 acquisition transactions and several hundred venture financings.

Chambers USA recognized Don for his work, noting he is "valued for his knowledge of venture capital firms and his strength in advising technology companies on public offerings, acquisition transactions and venture financings. One client insists that 'I would not dream of starting a company without him as my outside counsel.'"

Don held many leadership positions at Orrick. Don most recently led Orrick’s Technology Sector, which is one of the three focus areas (along with energy and finance) for the firm. Don is a former member of Orrick’s Board of Directors, served as head of the firm’s global corporate practice, served as head of the firm’s Silicon Valley Office and served as co-head of the firm's diversity efforts.

Don also previously served for many years on the Executive Committee of Venture Law Group.

James N. Kramer Partner

Jason Lang Partner

Mr. Lang has litigated cases before district courts, state courts, and the International Trade Commission. He has an extensive practice in patent office proceedings, including ex parte reexaminations and inter partes reviews. He has been a top-filer in inter partes reviews. Recent matters include work with memories (DRAM, Flash and hard drives), semiconductor tools, semiconductor packaging, and design software.

His counseling work includes developing defensive and offensive intellectual property strategies in view of potential competitor litigation. He also assists clients in indemnity disputes, product launches, patent acquisition, licensing and portfolio management.

Before focusing on intellectual property litigation and counseling, Mr. Lang spent a year working for the District Attorney’s Office in Atlanta, Georgia, where he had considerable exposure to numerous trials.

Mr. Lang’s public service commitments include steady work for housing clinics. Mr. Lang recently first-chaired a four-day trial, led a successful mediation, and obtained a favorable settlement for clients of different local clinics.
