Speaking Engagement | December.09.2021 - December.12.2021
Marriott Marquis - Washington, D.C.Orrick Partner Alice Hsu is speaking at the upcoming 2021 NAPABA Convention, serving as a panelist on the “What is the deal with SPACs?” session on Saturday, December 11, 2021.
2020 was a record-breaking year for Special Purpose Acquisition Companies (SPACs) with nearly 250 SPACs raising a whopping $83 billion in trust. That surpassed the previous record in 2019 of $13.6 billion in trust by over 12 times. With over $74 billion raised through early March, it’s clear that SPACs are shaping the current and future capital markets and M&A landscape. Like “leveraged buyout” and “IPO,” SPAC has made its way into the mainstream lexicon.
The New York Times recently wrote “Anyone Who’s Anyone Has a SPAC Right Now” underscoring that in the pandemic economy, the super-rich are flexing their status and wealth through a SPAC. Jay-Z, Shaquille O’Neal, Ciara Wilson, Serena Williams, Alex Rodriguez, Steph Curry and Billy Beane are connected to SPACs.
The panel will explore key structures, notable deals and what lawyers need to know. For further details, please visit the link below.
