Orrick announced today that Amy Ray, who has advised major tech companies and financial services institutions in some of the most high-profile antitrust matters of the past decade, has joined our Washington, D.C., office as a partner. Amy previously was a partner with Cadwalader, where she focused on deals and cases raising competition issues.
Recognizing her deep experience in transactional and litigation matters alike, Global Competition Review featured Amy in its "40 Under 40 – Class of 2016" global survey of rising antitrust lawyers.
With particular expertise on the competition aspects of major M&A transactions, she was a key team member in obtaining regulatory approvals for Microsoft’s $26.2 billion acquisition of LinkedIn, $7.2 billion acquisition of Nokia’s devices and services business, and $8.5 billion acquisition of Skype. Amy also provides antitrust and Hart-Scott-Rodino counseling to funds and other institutional investors.

Amy recently co-authored the antitrust chapter of the Litigation Services Handbook: The Role of the Financial Expert. Active in advancing women in law, she previously served on the U.S. National Women’s Law Center Leadership Advisory Committee.
Amy is the latest in a series of Orrick hires focused on the tech sector over the past two months. Most recently, the firm added Geoff Willard, a strategic advisor to tech companies and their investors, in Washington, D.C., from Cooley. Orrick also recently announced the additions in Silicon Valley of nationally recognized patent litigator Jared Bobrow, as co-leader of our global IP practice, and Jason Lang from Weil Gotshal, and Clem Roberts, a first-chair patent trial lawyer in San Francisco, from Durie Tangri.
Amy is also the third antitrust partner to join Orrick’s global team since 2016, following the additions of Patrick Hubert from Clifford Chance in Paris and Jim Tierney, former chief of the U.S. Justice Department’s Networks and Technology Enforcement Section, in Washington, D.C.
