Future Fiber Networks has raised $350 million in financing to deliver fiber connectivity and “smart-city solutions” around the United States.

Future Fiber Networks is a joint venture between APG, the largest pension provider in the Netherlands, and SiFi Networks, a leading North American developer of open-access fiber optic networks.

Orrick advised APG Asset Management and Patrizia Infrastructure, which acted as the investment manager for Future Fiber on behalf of APG.

The $350 million of seven-year financing will be used alongside APG’s $500 million equity investment in Future Fiber.

The effort to deliver fiber connectivity and smart city solutions has included recent projects in Oceanside, California, and Farmington and Farmington Hills, Michigan.

THE COMPANIES

APG Asset Management is one of the world’s largest pension investors, with more than €500 billion in assets under management.

Patrizia Infrastructure is “committed to investing in infrastructure that delivers better outcomes for the communities and the environment in which we operate.”

SiFi Networks is North America’s leading privately owned telecom company that is funding, building and operating open access fiber networks across the U.S.

THE IMPACT

The financing will allow Future Fiber to deliver future-proof, fiber-to-the-home connectivity and smart city solutions throughout the U.S.

Future Fiber aims to address the digital divide in the U.S., where over one-third of households do not have access to high-speed internet.

The funding incorporates mechanisms that align with Future Fiber’s ESG commitment to narrow the digital gap and provide fair internet access in economically disadvantaged areas, including alignment to the Green Loan Principles, a voluntary framework for green loans.

THE TEAM

John Donaleski led the Orrick team that advised APG Asset Management and Patrizia Infrastructure. The team also included Walter Alarkon, Dan Eliades and Sara Forden.
