Kentaro’s practice focuses on the development and financing of various energy projects, representing domestic and international sponsors and developers.

He mainly works on project contracts, including EPC, BOP, O&M contracts and various supply contracts such as TSA. He acquired a great understanding of clients’ needs after a secondment at a Japanese major trading house.

He also has experience advising domestic and overseas financial institutions, real estate funds, real estate developers and other companies on sophisticated real estate and asset finance transactions.

Prior to joining Orrick’s Tokyo Office, Kentaro worked in the Tokyo office of another international law firm where he engaged in cross-border M&A, finance transactions and dispute resolution.

    • Pattern Energy Group LP in the sale of its directly-owned Japanese assets and 100% of its interest in Green Power Investment Corporation to NTT Anode Energy Corporation and JERA Co., Inc. This is the largest deal ever for a renewable energy company in Japan.
    • Setouchi Future Creations LLC, a special purpose company consisting of GE Energy Financial Services, Toyo Engineering and Kuni Umi Asset Management, in negotiating project contracts and securing $1.1 billion debt and equity financing for Japan’s largest solar facility (235 MW).
    • Green Power Investment Corporation in its development of a 121.6 MW onshore wind energy project in Japan. The project located in Tsugaru City, Aomori Prefecture in the northern part of Japan. The commercial operation started in April 2020 and it is the largest wind energy project in Japan.
    • Multinational companies in the development and construction of various renewable energy projects portfolio in Japan including PV and wind projects, as well as financing through project finance.
    • Multiple investors in the development of, and the over JPY 10 billion syndicated project financing for, one of the largest mega-solar projects in the Kanto area surrounding Tokyo.
    • A leading hard drive manufacturer in its $4.8 billion acquisition of a Japanese hard disk drive manufacturer.
    • A Japan-based online game company in its acquisition of various online game contents companies.
