Orrick has advised leading content infrastructure company Contentful on its $33.5 million Series D financing round, led by U.S. investor Sapphire Ventures. The financing round also included new investors Salesforce Ventures and Canadian pensions fund OMERS as well as further investments from existing investors Benchmark, Balderton, Hercules Capital and General Catalyst.
Contentful is leading the transition from legacy Content Management Systems (CMS) to content infrastructure for digital teams to power websites, apps, and devices in a modern, sustainable way. With clients such as Urban Outfitters, Red Bull, The British Museum and Lenovo, the startup has recently been named a strong contender in the leading analysis 2018 Forrester Wave for Web Content Management Systems.
Sapphire Ventures is a Silicon Valley-based venture capital firm that started in 1996 as the venture capital arm of SAP and now invests globally in growth-stage technology companies and early-stage venture funds, managing more than $2.4 billion in assets.
Contentful was advised by an Orrick team led by tech transactions partner Sven Greulich, who regularly advises leading startups and corporate venture capital investors on financing rounds and M&A transactions, including advising Contentful on its $28 million Series C financing in late 2017.
The team also included partners Stefan Schultes-Schnitzlein (tax), André Zimmermann (employment law), senior counsel Mitchel Pahl (compensation & benefits), as well as associates John Harrison (Technology Companies Group), Johannes Josef Rüberg (M&A and private equity), Vanessa Sousa Höhl (M&A and private equity), Onur Öztürk (M&A and private equity), Louisa Kallhoff (employment law), and Olexiy Oleshchuk (capital markets).
