  • Timothy Carroll joins our IP litigation practice, bringing a proven track record of trial wins in high-stakes patent cases and other IP matters for innovators in the tech and life sciences sectors.
  • Tim has first-chaired trials in federal courts around the nation, as well as in the International Trade Commission, an increasingly important forum for IP disputes. He led trial teams to four wins in the past three years, including three in the ITC.
  • His array of trial wins has included a cross-section of tech and life sciences clients, protecting IP rights for numerous medical device companies, a leading smart thermostat manufacturer, a premium cable and satellite television company, defense and aerospace companies and multiple software providers, among others.
  • Most recently a partner with Venable, he joins our Chicago office and will also spend time in Washington, D.C.

“Our IP team is on a roll and we are thrilled to add another first chair of Tim’s quality and intensity to our roster,” said Clem Roberts, co-head of the firm’s IP Business Unit. “He brings an extraordinary record and a deep commitment to developing talent.”

“Orrick’s strong trial culture and strategic emphasis on the tech and life sciences sectors is an ideal fit,” Tim said. “I’m excited to join an IP litigation practice nationally recognized for trying and winning cases that matter to companies defending the technologies at the heart of their businesses. And I look forward to working with so many rising stars on our IP litigation team.”

Tim is the seventh partner the firm has added to the IP litigation practice in the past two years, focused on tech and life sciences, including a leading four-member life sciences team from Milbank and most recently rising star IP litigator Raghav Krishnapriyan. The firm has also announced additions in London in energy and finance this year.

American Lawyer last year named Orrick a finalist for IP Litigation Department of the Year and cited our string of IP wins for clients such as Sonos, Gilead and LinkedIn in also recognizing us as a national Litigation Department of the Year finalist.
