Three Orrick Partners Named 2024 MCCA Rainmakers and Rising Stars

The Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) has selected Orrick partners Rohit Sachdev and Tony Chan as 2024 Rainmakers and Joseph Santiesteban as a 2024 Rising Star for their innovative work for clients in energy, tech, life sciences and finance and their dedication to improving our profession.

A leading advisor on renewables and energy storage transactions, Rohit focuses his practice on the mitigation of climate change impacts by facilitating the development and expansion of renewable energy around the world.

His recent work has included advising Primergy Solar on a 400 MW solar + 1.6 GWh battery storage power purchase agreement with San Diego Community Power, California’s second largest Community Choice Aggregator, and separately on over $1 billion of development arrangements and procurement contracts for the 690 MW solar + 380 MW battery storage Gemini project in Nevada, and advising Intersect Power on a complicated suite of offtake arrangements and contracts for the 500 MW solar + 250 battery MW storage Oberon project in California, which uses American-made equipment and pays prevailing wages. Rohit co-leads Orrick’s South Asian Inclusion Network, has pioneered inclusive approaches to marketing and client development in our E&I practice and is launching the first national professional group focused on South Asians in the renewable energy industry.

Tony is a trusted advisor to some of the world’s most innovative companies and investors in the life sciences, tech and finance sectors.

He advises clients on M&A, private equity, growth equity and venture capital transactions as well as corporate governance and joint ventures. His recent work includes representing Ipsen in its acquisition of Albireo, a leading innovator in bile-acid modulators to treat liver diseases, and Euclid Vision Corporation in various acquisitions worldwide. He maintains an active pro bono practice, counseling a variety of nonprofits, including Aequitas, APAI Vote, Chefs Stopping Asian American Hate, Rebuilding Together Philadelphia and others. He serves as the co-leader of Orrick’s Asian Pacific American Inclusion Network and on the boards of the Harvard Law School Association of D.C. and the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of D.C. He is also an adjunct professor at Georgetown Law School.

A strategic partner to clients in the fast-evolving area of security, Joe advises on cyber risk mitigation and incident response.

He has led some of the world’s largest technology and entertainment companies through incident response, including matters involving the historic MOVEit breach that affected thousands of organizations and the Scattered Spider attacks that crippled large public companies. Joe is the co-head of our Latinx Inclusion Network and serves on Orrick’s and Finance & Audit and Pro Bono Committees. He is also a member of the Washington Latino Bar Association and the Hispanic National Bar Association.
