  • What inspired you to become an emerging companies and venture capital lawyer?

I have always been fascinated by the strength of entrepreneurship and innovation. I have been fortunate to immerse myself within the dynamic and innovative startup ecosystem and guide inspiring entrepreneurs through the good, the bad and the ugly to protect, encourage and support the disruptive technologies they develop and the transformative impact they have.

  • If you weren't a tech lawyer, what would you do?

Finding a suitable use case for my height and stature, whether that be on the rugby pitch or assisting Sunday shoppers with items on the top shelf.

  • What technology are you most excited to see develop?

Innovations in waste reduction, pollution control and other environmental technologies which are critical to addressing climate and environmental challenges (and in supporting my (purportedly) high level of food consumption).

  • What is your ideal weekend?

Walking through my native homeland of the Yorkshire Dales rounded off at a gruff Yorkshire pub with copious amounts of hearty grub.

    • What inspires you about working with tech companies?

Because every so often, you get to work with founders and teams that dare to do the things that no one can imagine.

    • What inspired you to become an emerging companies and venture capital lawyer?

At my core, I'm a relationship driven person and building long lasting friendships with founders and investors by helping them achieve their visions starting from day 0 of a new company through an exit is what keeps me going as an ECVC lawyer.

    • If you weren't a tech lawyer, what would you do?

I would probably work in sports or go into politics.

    • What do you consider the best innovation since the internet?

The iPhone & mobile broadband (hands down).

    • If you could choose one superpower, what would it be?

I already have one - it's my ability to work from any where, time or place. I think it's one of the reasons (fortunately and unfortunately :-)) that my clients love working with me - they know I have their backs and they can reach me at their most critical moments.

    • What's your mantra?

Don't ask someone else to do something that you don't or wouldn't do yourself.

Based in New York, I advise tech companies from formation to exit as well as venture capital investors. Many of my clients are based in Europe (particularly France and Switzerland) and I work regularly with my colleagues in Germany, UK and France. Prior to joining the tech companies group, I practiced general corporate and M&A law and even worked in-house for a tech company for one year.

      • What inspired you to become an emerging companies and venture capital lawyer?

When I was just starting out as a corporate lawyer my close friend launched a tech start-up. After living vicariously through his experience, I knew I wanted to work with start-ups and help companies and founders succeed.

      • If you weren't a tech lawyer, what would you do?

        Historian or a winemaker.

      • Tell us something we'd be surprised to know about you.

In another life, I spent time in Colombia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo working with the United Nations.

      • If you could choose one superpower, what would it be?

Travel in time to unlock the many mysteries of the past.

My practice focuses on domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, advising companies on formation and equity financings, and corporate governance matters—a little bit of everything in the corporate world. I approach every transaction with enthusiasm and work to serve as both a trusted advisor and friendly face for each client. I love a puzzle and consider myself a problem solver and creative thinker.

Working with people who relentlessly push the envelope.

        • If you weren't a tech lawyer, what would you do?

Art museum docent or a professor…never say never!

        • Tell us about a favorite book, work of art or piece of music?

Gerald Murphy's "Cocktail" painting located in the Whitney Museum. Growing up, my house and favorite local restaurant had a lot of Jazz Age inspired artwork, just like Murphy's painting, and, fittingly, I have a print of "Cocktail" in my kitchen.

          Everything Is figureoutable.
