What inspires you about working with tech companies?

Working with tech companies means you're always learning. Being able to simply sit and listen to founders explain their ideas and being able to help make them a reality is a privilege.
If you weren't a tech lawyer, what would you do?

If I wasn't a lawyer, and had the time, patience and kitchen work space, I would love to be a baker. I will occasionally open the Great British Bake Off application before realising I do not have the time, or the talent to enter.
Tell us something we'd be surprised to know about you.

While at university in Houston, I was a keen two-stepper and cheerleader.
Tell us about a favorite book, work of art or piece of music?

Invisible Women by Caroline Criado-Perez is one of those books that you can't stop quoting from or telling people about. It discusses data-bias and how the gap in data is a root cause of inequality; and it will convince you that yes, snow-clearing can be sexist.

I lead Orrick's UK financial services regulatory practice. With a focus on FinTech, I advise the full spectrum of financial services firms. My team covers the full lifecycle of regulated firms including licensing obligations, ongoing compliance, reg due diligence, changes of control and responses to regulatory investigations.

What inspires you about working with tech companies?

I'm passionate about the ability of technology to improve the quality of people's lives in real and tangible ways. Technology can improve our experience in all manner of tasks, from the mundane and the most complex.
Where do you find inspiration in life?

From observing individuals overcome challenge through dedication and often applied intellect. I'm often amazed how challenges that people have fought against for centuries disappear through the application of quite simple technological solutions.
If you weren't a tech lawyer, what would you do?

Something boring! I enjoy working in financial services regulation. If there wasn’t a technology edge to my work I’d still work in financial services only it would be a bit more dull.
If you could choose one superpower, what would it be?

Teleportation. Imagine being able to finish working in the office and seconds later appear at home or a restaurant with friends!

What inspires you about working with tech companies?

I admire the dedication and sacrifice of tech company founders. I have firsthand experience with helping grow a company from zero employees and no products to an international team with a full product portfolio and ultimately a fruitful exit.
If you weren't a tech lawyer, what would you do?

Start a vegan, organic, gluten free, non-GMO, non-plant-based ice cream business.
What is your ideal weekend?

Spending weekends hiking with my wife, toddler, puppy and elder pup.
If you could choose one superpower, what would it be?

The ability to sleep for one hour and gain the physical and mental recovery of 8 hours' worth of sleep.

Nancy Jones

I give legal advice, training and tech support to the London corporate group to assist my colleagues in providing a great service to clients. I started my career working as a transactional lawyer doing corporate and capital markets deals and have also worked in-house as a sole legal counsel in a manufacturing company.

Working to create UK content for the Orrick Tech Studio and collaborating on other legal innovation projects which enable our attorneys to work more efficiently. It's an exciting time in legal tech.

I ran the London Marathon in 2010 – it was a surprise to me too.
What do you consider the best innovation since the internet?

Mobile Broadband giving us the internet in our pockets changed how we live.
