  • What inspires you about working with tech companies?

Technology is constantly evolving and working with our clients provides a firsthand look at the latest technological advancements. It is inspiring to work with founders and investors looking to reimagine the world.

  • If you weren't a tech lawyer, what would you do?

In an alternative universe, a fiction author and a part-time pâtissier.

  • Tell us something we'd be surprised to know about you.

Before law school I briefly considered a career in musical theatre.

    • What inspires you about working with tech companies?

It's energizing to work in an industry that is all about innovation and to help investors and founders who are working to make that innovation possible.

    • Where do you find inspiration in life?

I find inspiration in learning new things. I'm constantly trying to pick up new skills (currently learning to play the guitar and trying to level up my UTSA tennis rating) and love that I am always learning something new in my practice, whether it's about a new product from one of my clients or a novel legal issue presented by developments in technology.

    • If you weren't a tech lawyer, what would you do?

I'd probably be a nurse or some other profession in healthcare. Prior to making the pivot to law, I was a pre-med undergrad and still find the science and caring aspects of medicine compelling.

    • What is your ideal weekend?

Snowboarding our local mountain with my partner and kids.

I'm a startup and VC lawyer focusing on venture financings and corporate governance matters, and also have experience counseling clients on M&A and technology transactions. I am committed to understanding my clients' business needs and providing practical advice tailored to their situation and goals. I sit on the board and am currently president of the Los Angeles Venture Association, and enjoy speaking on fundraising essentials and other educational topics, with a particular affinity for supporting the women founders community.

Clients I've worked with: ZeroTier | Inspectify | Moving Analytics | Morpheus Ventures

      • What inspired you to become an emerging companies and venture capital lawyer?

I started my career in Palo Alto, but oddly enough did not plan to focus on startups and VC. After working on a couple of venture financings, though, I was hooked. I love the deep partnership that comes from being closely involved with the founders and rest of the team, all of whom are incredibly dedicated, and value the opportunity to serve not only as legal counsel but also trusted advisor.

      • What is your ideal weekend?

If I'm around home: a run by the beach or a hike, crossword puzzles, and barbecue with family and friends. I love living in Santa Monica so it can be tempting to stay put, but I also really enjoy getting out of town for short weekend trips all around California.

      • Tell us about a favorite book, work of art or piece of music.

I have always loved the New World Symphony. I was a violinist ages ago and that was one of the first pieces I played as part of a symphony. I don't listen to classical music often, but that piece will always have a place in the rotation.

      • What's the best advice you've ever received?

Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good - great advice in many aspects of life, and very applicable to working with startups.

I help clients navigate the privacy, cybersecurity and consumer protection challenges in developing and deploying AI products and in creating AI risk management and data governance programs. My clients range from pharmaceutical and life sciences companies, to social networks and enterprise SaaS platforms processing the most sensitive types of personal data. I gain critical insights through my work on M&A transactions and identifying trends in how companies of all shapes and sizes are handling these novel issues.

Clients I've worked with: Praxis Precision Medicines | Dexcom | Workday

        • Tell us about a favorite client or project.

A favorite project of mine involved the full-scale assessment of the compliance risks of a data platform helping identify potential audiences and customer bases for health care and pharmaceutical companies. Thinking through levels of anonymization, abstraction and aggregation to preserve privacy while still helping companies with needed therapies grow and reach the right people is a difficult but rewarding needle to thread.

        • If you weren't a tech lawyer, what would you do?

I would love to narrate audiobooks as a voice actor.

        • Tell us something we'd be surprised to know about you.

I have run with the bulls!

        • What do you consider the best innovation since the internet?

The mobile smartphone. A one stop shop for content, commerce, communication and a life changing tool that brings the world to your fingertips.
